Roots of Tomorrow presents itself as a strategic turn-based game designed to enhance understanding of agroecology and sustainable agriculture. Players can choose from four characters to embark on their farming journey in various regions of France. The primary objective is to navigate the agroecological transition of the farm within a decade, a goal that is achieved through the choices made by the player.

Players are welcomed to their farms, each situated in distinct French locales:
<ul>
 <li>Brittany (Northwest of France): Focus on pig breeding and diverse crop cultivation.</li>
 <li>Grand Est (Northeast of France): Specialize in cattle breeding alongside multiple crops.</li>
 <li>Provence (Southeast of France): Engage in sheep breeding with a variety of crops.</li>
 <li>Additional farm locations are expected to be available in future updates.</li>
</ul>

The role of the player extends beyond cultivation; as the head manager of the farm, one must delegate tasks among staff. Responsibilities range from sowing seedlings and feeding livestock to maintaining cleanliness and even managing tourist interactions. It is crucial to monitor employee workload to maintain a favorable social score for the farm.

Research and the unlocking of sustainable farming techniques are cornerstones of gameplay. Players can explore various methods, including direct seeding, implementing hedges for biodiversity preservation, achieving energy autonomy, and mastering precision agriculture, among others.

Attention to the farm's performance metrics is vital. Achieving sustainability requires balancing economic, environmental, and social scores, all influenced by player decisions. Strategically evaluating actions—such as the use of synthetic fertilizers or incurring debt—is essential for cultivating a truly sustainable farm.
